Garbage Men Take Photos with Trashcams

Rathaus Hamburg
Rathaus, the city hall in Hamburg

Garbage men in Hamburg, Germany have turned 1100 litre garbage containers into pinhole cameras. The project is called the Trashcam Project. This is a great idea, but they should have kept it quiet because now their boss will know what they’re doing 😉

Below is Garbage man Hans-Dieter Braatz taking a photo with one of the pinhole Dumpster cameras. It takes around 2 minutes for framing a shot and exposure can take up to an hour. The photo below is taken by Mirko Derpmann, with a normal camera 🙂

Below is a self portrait of Garbageman Roland Wilhelm standing with his trashcam, shot with a second trashcam. The camera is loaded with a 106×80 cm sheet of Ilford multigrade, and luckily for him (seeing as he has to stand completely still) the exposure for this shot was only six minutes.
