Microstock agencies are like girlfriends

In the beginning it is grand, show me your pixels, love your pixels, I need your pixels, I want your pixels, more, please more..

Why bother?

When one agency rejects a photo that I have already spent time on editing, do I bother to edit the image again according to how they want it? I often don’t bother. For the photo below though, I did and it was accepted by Dreamstime the second time round. Since it was accepted it has been downloaded 6 times on DT, netting me $20.46.

This Microstock Site is a “Joke”

Sometimes I hear the words ‘microstock has revolutionised the stock industry’. It’s not microstock, it’s the advent of the digital camera..

Is it time to give Crestock another try?

Acquisitions of microstock agencies by more traditional stock agencies have been a common trend over the past few years. Both micro and macro..

Keywords and Images to Avoid

The use of the following keywords will trigger off sirens at BigStock’s Head Quarters and a cage will be dropped over the reviewer who is examining your image. The reviewer will not be released until the suspect keyword or image in question is fully screened…

Interview with Microstock Photographer Tatiana Morozova

© Photographer: Friday | Agency: Dreamstime.com My only communication with other photographers is online and most of them have been through microstock sites. I met Tana 8 months ago on Dreamstime. Super Gaffes

We all make mistakes. God knows I make plenty and before you all shout in chorus “Your blog, it’s a mistake!” I would just like to point out some larger gaffes. There was an article on Smartmoney recently called “Small Business: How to Beat a Goliath“. It focused on how a microstock company was the [...]

Hurry! Snap Up My Snapshots.

I generally wish that the agencies would offer a little more accurate information when sending rejection reasons. Instead of, your pic. was rejected because of this or possibly this. What? Does the reviewer not know the reason?

What? Keywording? I thought I was a photographer!

So you’ve done your shoot and if like me, you’ve toiled with Photoshop. Right, lets send those amazing pics to the world. Wait, you can’t. You have to keyword your images, using words that you think a potential buyer will use in their search. What if I spent my youth bunking off school and my spelling is terribul?

They said, “turn photos sitting on your hard drive into cash!”

Having teething problems, but staying resilient none the less. I’m new to all this and a little surprised, at how difficult it is to get images accepted on these sites. Wasn’t the Microstock industry a way of turning photos, sitting on your hard drive into cash? It’s not as easy as they make it sound. [...]

I reached 50 recently :[

No, not my age, but my uploads on Dreamstime :] Although 50 years of age is not that far away too, if I think about it. Ok 50 uploads, big deal! Before you say it, why am I writing a post to say I have 50 uploads on a website that has millions. Well hopefully [...]
