Anyone for tennis?

On Thursday, the WTA tour came to Bali, with the impressively named “Tournament of Champions”, well that’s what it says on the flyer. Initially, I pondered whether I should attend or not..

Why bother?

When one agency rejects a photo that I have already spent time on editing, do I bother to edit the image again according to how they want it? I often don’t bother. For the photo below though, I did and it was accepted by Dreamstime the second time round. Since it was accepted it has been downloaded 6 times on DT, netting me $20.46.

Shutterstock contributor photographs ‘the unseen side’ of Afghanistan

I never read about or watched a news report on the overwhelming hospitality of Iranians, Pakistani villagers resisting a rising tide of militancy, or Afghanistan’s rich and multi-cultural heritage. A sense of injustice is a strong motivator, and I’ve been writing and photographing the unseen sides of Central Asia, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan ever since.

The Importance of Keywording in Earnest

One of the most useful resources offered by a microstock agency is Dreamstime’s “Buyer searched after” keyword information. It’s great to have good, marketable images, it’s even better if they are found…

I’ve been passive, but my income reaches new heights

And Remember, Don’t Send Us Your Shots Taken From a Plane

I’ve counted 17 countries that I’ve been to in all, which on the brag scale isn’t a massive amount. However, I’ve flown in a lot of planes and virtually the only thing I enjoy about this form of travel is..

Seasonal Trends

Microstock photographers face a slowdown in sales during the Northern hemisphere’s summertime, or so I hear. I’m assuming the drop is due to a decrease in search and download time and an increase in beach and feet up time. For me, I seemed to have had a drop in the last quarter of last year, however [...]

April Showers

April is known for having frequent showers in the UK. However, I don’t think even 30 days of rain could get me down this month, as I had a lot of good news. As you know from the last post, I had 4 images accepted for the “In the News” page on Dreamstime. I think [...]

In the News

© Photographer: Komar | Agency: Dreamstime.com Another editorial post, but the last one for  a while. There has been a lot happening here recently and I’ve enjoyed getting out on the streets and taking spontaneous shots, and not having to worry about model releases. I’m sure a lot of photographers have goals they wish to [...]

It’s Ok, Just Kiss

© Photographer: Komar | Agency: Dreamstime.com Last year a friend asked me if I was going to see the kissing festival. I just gave a smile as if to say, you have to be smarter than that if you think you’re going to fool me. I honestly thought she was pulling my leg and gave [...]

Super Gaffes

We all make mistakes. God knows I make plenty and before you all shout in chorus “Your blog, it’s a mistake!” I would just like to point out some larger gaffes. There was an article on Smartmoney recently called “Small Business: How to Beat a Goliath“. It focused on how a microstock company was the [...]

Hurry! Snap Up My Snapshots.

I generally wish that the agencies would offer a little more accurate information when sending rejection reasons. Instead of, your pic. was rejected because of this or possibly this. What? Does the reviewer not know the reason?
