7 Things Creative People do Differently

1. They can be inspired at any given moment, by anything.

Everything can be an inspiration for their next idea and they notice even the smallest details in things. Great ideas will come to them often at the most unexpected times. You will probably see their minds drift away at any given moment including during conversations. Don’t get upset by this, it’s just the way they are. They really can’t help it!

2. They can be perceived as overly curious.

The creative mind is fuelled by intense curiosity which can be exhausting at times for those around them, but there is no way to power this down. Their minds never slow down and they always feel the need to know things and ask questions that non-creatives may not think to ask.

“Curiosity about life in all of its aspects, I think, is still the secret of great creative people” – Leo Burnett

3. They will listen to their hearts more than the voice of reason.

Creative people are likely to take more risks and worry less about conforming. They don’t give up on their ideas because other people don’t agree with them. They probably will experience failure more than people working in less creative fields, but staying true to who they are plays a large part in how they define success. They embrace their genius even if others around them can’t always see it.

4. They need time and space to focus.

Often creative people tune their entire world out when they’re focused on work, they can forget to eat, drink and even sleep. The right environment is essential which often means an environment without distractions. Even times of complete solitude can be a very positive thing for a creative person. They cannot multi-task effectively and it can take several minutes to re-focus after being interrupted, even if the interruption was only for a few seconds.

5. They fall in love with their work but hate it the next day.

They are perfectionists and can tinker with their creations for a very long time, only to look at their work the next day and feel the need to make further improvements, or start over. They do not understand people who can work on something and finish when they they think it is good enough. For the creative person their work finishes when their soul stops asking for more and they will readily work for very long periods, even through the night until they can satisfy their soul’s demand.

“Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it” – Salvador Dali

6. They are able to look at the world with the eyes of a child.

There’s a large part of them that never really grows up. Similar to a child, they never lose a sense of wonder and amazement and in return they remain youthful and creative.

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up” – Pablo Picasso

7. Their love is boundless.

They love to express themselves and are always looking for new ways to do so. People who work as photographers will still want to create and express themselves in other ways, the same will apply to artists, writers etc. If someone is truly creative they won’t be restricted to just one medium or to their main profession. They love the thrill of creating and will always find ways to express themselves.

They love life, they love people, they love animals and nature, they love emotions and beauty. Their love for life is contagious, if you know people like this you may not always be able to see the world through their lens, but stick with them as they will somehow make your life a little more beautiful.

If you are creative then which points above can you relate to the most, or are there other ways you behave differently because of your creative streak?
